Promise Me

Promise me you will remember to breathe.

Time from the busiest day you must thieve.

When that essay is due,

Please, have tea time at two!

Just to watch the sun come in,

Across your cookie tin,

Spilling into your warm cup at your fingers end,

And caressing your creased forehead.

Promise me you will take a walk without your shoes. Between your toes let the mud ooze. If you scrape your knees, let it be. It might just bleed away your pain, planting a seed. Run through the long grass. Let's race and see who is fast. The wind brushes your face, Notice how it wins each chase! Promise me you will stop mid-step, Noticing the patch of sun, sidestep. Sit in its warmth a moment, Let your mind wander, to dream or lament. With thoughts of deep forests, Filled with gnomes and fairies in the stead of tourists. Of dances in the moonlight and songs of cheer, Of gleeful walks through the Wood you hold dear. Promise me you will climb each tree, And if you again, scrape your knee, Count it as a souvenir, Of the day you saw the sky close and clear. Splash each puddle you find. The ripples are kind. Lest your reflection remains unchanged. Do not allow your heart to stay chained. Promise me you will never lose your sense of wonder. Never get caught up in your fear of blunder This life is sweet and bright, But if all you see is strife, you will not see that beautiful sight.

I wish with all my heart that you could see The beautiful soul you are and will be. You have been forgiven, so don't carry your pain in tow. And in this garden He grew, you will only grow, grow, grow!
